I cut the stand in half and bolted it together in an overlapping fashion. I forgot to tell you Dan, I plan on setting this monitor/iMac in a pair of desk top cellphone holders because this iMac sits on a kitchen counter and the cabinets above, with their light skirt, block 1/4 of the top of the screen. Also what about the other bolt? It seems to be a bolt with a cone shaped head and a threaded hole. These flats allow you to remove this bolt but I will have to make a tool to allow me to do this. This tells me that it can be held on these flats without damaging the threads, and then unscrewed? The nut which goes on this bolt is used to adjust the tension on the swivel of the hinge. I know there is a way to remove the stand because it was put there by technicians and engineers designed it.Ĭan you help me? The bolt has two flats on it on opposite sides. I contacted Apple Canada several times this afternoon and all I got was to ask the Genius department to install a VESA mount adaptor. I am aware that this might not be the easiest solution but I do believe that it will be a sleeker solution than the add-on VESA mounts.Dan, you say its a lot of work to remove the stand from the M1 iMac? I tried to but ran into a huge problem I cannot overcome yet. If the part fits, I would be happy to share the CAD design files. Using these dimensions, a CAD drawing can be made and have it machined somewhere. I am therefore looking for someone who would happen to have a 21.5" iMac stand lying around of the 2009, 2010 or the 2011 model (OEM part # 922-9796 ) and would like to share its dimensions in order to replicate the stand to a VESA mount.
My "solution" would be partially disassembling the computer in order to remove the stand and replace that stand with a custom part which can connect to a VESA wall mount. I for one am not a big fan of these add-on mounts and would like to create a solution. I have also found that there are a couple of mounts that you can attach to the stand and mount it to the wall.
This unfortunately is not possible as many sources on the internet already mention. Attach it to a wall mount, a desk mount, or even an articulating arm to declutter your work space.
